Dwayne Dunn has picked up the plum mount on Polish Knight in Saturday’s Group One Australian Derby after Brenton Avdulla had his appeal against a suspension dismissed.
Avdulla was aboard for the three-year-old’s shock win in the Tulloch Stakes and had hoped to stick with him for the Classic at Randwick.
But his Derby dreams were dashed on Wednesday when the Racing NSW appeal panel dismissed his case to have his suspension overturned.
Avdulla was outed for his ride on Kneeling in the Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill last month.
He can return on April 20, a day before he is due to ride Secret Admirer in the Doncaster Mile.
TAB Sportsbet has Polish Knight at $15 for the Derby with Laser Hawk the $3.20 favourite.
